P.s.
If at all possible NEVER use the Windows update to update the drivers for controllers ,CPUs,GPUs,chipsets.....Use the Device makers drivers..I've had problems with the Win drvs before. The dvrs the makers of the device use are usually newer and better. For an example (for you all knowing hardcore gamers) just look at the old dvrs windows update shows for the graphics card you have.

No, that's not quite correct - all the drivers submitted to Windows Update by third party companies are written by the third party; they're not "Windows Update's" drivers - they're the company's drivers, so they're not to be mistrusted necessarily.
In the case of graphics cards though you're in a different situation - driver updates come thick and fast and are not always submitted to Microsoft's WHQL programme to be signed (a requirement for them to appear on Windows Update) so usually the best course is to get the latest one from the manufacturer's/chipset's website.

Roll back the HUMAN INTERFACE/ Saitek USB first then the HID, then reboot.
else u'll (at least I did) the old USB and the new MS update HID drivers. which FWIW, seemed to work OK. rolled back OK without having to edit or moves file/ folders or system restore, though I did have the SST software removed prior to this for the mouse cursor from hell reasons. Rolled back ? Or Removed ?
The only reason I mentioned rolling back the drivers is because like you I knew Windows Update installed 2 new drivers. HID and USB All you would have to do to fix the problem is roll the drivers back. But not deleteing the offending Windows drivers from C:\windows\system32\drivers... could cause trouble for you again if you reinstall the Saitek SST software again some day. As Windows may very well decide that the newer drivers in the above directory are better than the older drivers you will be attempting to load with the SST installation program. Now I was going to roll back both drivers and be done with it when I realized I didn't want scrap (bad) drivers left on my machine , so I stopped the rollback idea and removed them permantly. This doesn't hurt as the SST install will put all the drivers back .

Does anyone knowledgeable in how to fix this have advice for me? I've had my x52 for a few months now and all was working well until I updated with windows update. It would not load my profile after that. I then updated using the built in link to SD_WinXP_4_3_3_2053.exe and then found that launcher would not autoload nor launch after that update. After reading around here I found that if I unplug and replug the x52 it then kicks off launcher. I'm so dissapointed I don't know if the x52 even works right with the new drivers as I haven't played it yet but having to unplug it and replug it everytime I want to play with it just isn't going to work for me, my usb ports are on the back of my pc.
I don't have rollback abilities as I don't have restore points enabled. So what advice do you have to get back to a working state? I don't mind going back to the original drivers without rollback? (I wish Saitek would post the original drivers on the website because I can't locate my disc right now). Thanks. |

We're trying to look into this problem at the moment but can't reliably replicate it. However, just because the icon isn't there it doesn't mean that you can't use the stick - you just have to go through the slightly longer process of opening the SST icon on the desktop, opening the profile in there and then loading it. You should find that the programming still works.

Thanks Richard but I believe it still does not work. I'm assuming you mean from the programming module clicking the "profile now" icon (after Opening my profile)? I do that and it does not activate the profile as the x52 still says "No Profile" on it. I tried looking through the help page from within the programming module but it didn't say anything about the profile now button.
I did try one of the buttons that generates a single keystroke in notepad but it doesn't work. Thanks again for your help. |

I too had the same problem as mentioned above, unable to load any profiles, I uninstalled and reinstalled the SST software to no avail, then I came to this forum for help and realised that I too had recently carried out a Windows check for updates and had installed the optional update "Saitek - Input Devices - Saitek X52 Flight Controller (HID)" and since this had been unable too load any profiles. I did a restore to a checkpoint before the windows update and now all is fine. Thanks to those forum members who posted the help. |

I fail to see what you think was conceited (or unhelpful) about the reply - I was merely addressing the person's concern that all he was seeing was issues; as I said, this is a tech support forum so of course all you're going to see is people having issues - that's what it's here for. Also, as he was concerned about the update causing problems I simply suggested he used the CD that came with the stick - again, I really don't see any form of conceit there.
As for your problems with the icon, we're still looking into it because it really is something that we're having trouble replicating. As soon as we get anything I'll let you know.

Guys, I had the same problem and found a fix. Not sure if this has been suggested but I just rolled back the drivers (HID and USB), restarted the machine and everything worked as before. To roll back the driver, you go to Device Manager and select the Saitek X52 (HID and USB) under Human Interface Device. Roll back both drivers and it should work fine again.
ps: I had system restore turned off so this is the only option for me. ![]() |

Same problem here, vanilla XP, driver installed from origin disk, things going well.
Click on "Download STT Programing Software" and following the instruktions brings an error afterwards by click on "Profile now" and sometimes a Bluescreen. I'm german an don't know what "Roll back" means (sounds like a button i've never seen or can't translate) so help would really appreciated btw: i'm able to got the origin config to work as described above (delete some files in System32 folder...) but i want to use the new stuff ![]() Last edited by connan : 28th September 2005 at 13:30. |

Connan, if you've got the 4.3.3.2053 software then you need to also update the driver for the stick using Windows Update.
