This issue does not present itself on Vista Ultimate (both 32bit and 64bit), so it should not cause a problem on Home Premium (I will confirm this shortly).
Being destitute as I am in getting my X52 to KEEP working (and not quit while on approach!), I tried this (albeit, the UPPER solution in Post#8)...the MFD now is lit up! I'm hoping this will also cure my ever-going problem with the X52 quitting on me- it seems as though it might be a timing issue as it usually dies after a period of no input. But then again, like I said, it's died while flying a manual approach. Somehow I think the drivers are getting overridden by some others when close to the airport. All indications are that it seems to be an available memory issue, but I've got 3gb of crucial memory onboard.

I never had this problem until I got a "new" HP a1520n WindowsXP Media Center computer with a Athlon X64x2 3800+. I've done numerous tweaks in the reg and other tahn my X52 issue, the machine screams and is the cleanest I've ever got a system to be. Even when I have the problem, all shows well- no indicators in Device Mgr that show any problems nor anywhere else- just no activity using Calibration in either FSX or via the Control Panel. Sometimes just the throttle works, but other times neither work. Sometimes I switch USB ports and it works after a bit of time, most of the time that doesn't matter. I've installed/re-installed (with completely going through ALL Sai* filesin Explorer and deleting what I can in regedit), and it works for a bit, but crashes on me for no apparent reason other than what I've previously indicated. Even rebooting sometimes fixes it, but most of the time it doesn't. This truly is one of the most confounding problems I've ever had with a peripheral. (oh, and I've also replaced my MS Wireless 6000V2 mouse and Reclusa keyboard with "standard" wired products and it still happens). and the amount of time before it goes is also a great variant- sometimes within one flight, other times I can go days without is happening- it's the most frustrating thing I've ever gone through. I even have used the new Alcricity program to subdue an array of services (using the technique MS says to use for config.sys), yet still no resolve.

I thought that after using Windows Update last night and the Saitek X52 drivers were offered that I was well along with my error-free goal. But to no avail. End of first flight from San Diego to LAX on APPROACH, the X52 died on me at approx 1,000 ft prior to landing. I've had this unit for 2-3 years, but the problems seem to only be with this 'puter.

I've poured over this site for over a year, read every single post I possibly can, and still no change. I will be building a new system from scratch, and will report any results that I can after doing so- crossing my fingers that a new scratch system will take care of the problem. I'd re-install XP, but don't have the disks (since this was a hand-me-down 'puter), and just don't have the will power to go through all that and still have the problem.

Sorry for the Novel version...I hope to post the results in a more Reader's Digest format.

OH! And the MFD is STILL lit up!

Smile At last my clock is working

After many months of not bothering with the time on my MFD, I decided to visit again this forum and read this thread again. I had previously done all I could to try and make my MFD work from the usual not working at all to everything except the clock keeping time ( showing time of computer boot up only ).

After reading about the upper filters fix, I looked at my registry but no upperfilters or lower either for the hotas , but upon searching I found upperfilters for other devices and one of these was the software for a tablet made by Wacom. As I don't use it much at all these days I decided to uninstall all traces of this tablet software and drivers etc from my system, and since a reboot shortly afterwards the clock now works as intended and all functions of the MFD are working.

This may be of help to someone else as the tablet was simulating a mouse type device and may have been conficting.

SUPERB ! Thanks for the Fix

Yep guys, bought a second hand X52 and the NOT ONLY did the MFD only light up ONCE (as a flash) on installation ..... in the Control panel ...

1. I could not change the LED Brightness
2. I could not change the MFD Brightness
3. The MFD Displayed NOTHING but the Mode 1 2 & 3 (not even pinkie shift)

Tried several reinstalls with various versions but to no avail.
Found this thread eventually and BINGO !!!!

Renamed that Upperfilters thing to NotUpperfilters, Rebooted and BINGO !!!

Control Panel now operates the LED and MFD Brightnesses and I got lots of clocks and stuff and profile crap and I have no idea how to work it ....
But it looooks cooool !

I have Windows XP Media Center Edition 32Bit.
That there was EXACTLY the problem.

Absolutely Chuffed
Now I can start having even more fun :-)

PS. Can we please GET THIS THREAD on the MAIN PAGE that people can see without registering. It took me 3 days to find the threads and 2 days to get registered on the forums to see this thread.

GET THE WORD OUT THERE SAITEK .... you wouldn't believe the amount of forums I ran across with people and roughly the same probs.

MFD. Sorry to do this

I recently bought the X52 Pro, and am delighted with it. everything worked, and it was a vast improvement to FSX, however, a few days ago the MFD stopped showing the radio stack for no apparent reason. I have spent the last two days plowing thru the forums, making the adjustments recommended, all to no avail.. I am now back to square one with all my settings, including the changes I made with regedit. Surely there is some simple reason for these changes? I am no computer whiz, but there must be some simple explanation as to why the MFD changed? Terry Carr.
