Had it for about 2 weeks now and I still can't figure it out. Don't know how to program it for the different flight sims. Don't know how to load the profiles. I have been through the manual and searched the web but am still at a loss. Would like to get a generic type profile and use it for most games. Is there any elementary articles about this as it seems I am not able to understand the manual?

bchivers,

You have two options to setup the X52. You can either use the traditional method where you go into the options within the game you are playing and assign certain functions to applicable buttons on the X52. Alternatively you can setup a profile within the X52 whereby each button you press mirrors a something you would do on the keyboard - it is this thing on the keyboard that would then control what happens in the game.

The first option is very simple however I am assuming that you are going to be limited in the number of buttons and functions on the X52 that you are going to be able to use. The second, whilst simple, can take a little getting used to. The second involves you deciding what each button on the X52 is going to do, and they setting up the profile to tell the X52 what to actually do. Eg: in your game you can fire a seconardary weapon by pressing enter on the keyboard and you'd like button 2 on the X52 to achieve this. So what you do is program the profile so that when you press button 2 the computer thinks you have pressed enter, and therefore it fires your secondary weapon.

You will be able to save this profile specifically for this game or, like you have asked, you can setup a generic profile to cover a number of games. Your preferred option will only work however if your games share common keyboard actions eg: space = fire. Otherwise you may need to setup a separate profile for each game.

Now the question is, how do I program the profile so that button 2 equals enter on the keyboard (or whatever you like). The answer is using the Saitek Smart Technology (SST) Programming Software - specifically the Profile Editor.

The manual which helps you understand how to use this can be found in C:\Program Files\Saitek\Manuals (the usual installation place) and the file is called SST Manual_EN.htm.

If you find for some reason you don't have it, you may find that you haven't installed the SST Software. If this is the case, there is a link to download it in the properties of your X52. Go to Start, (settings), Control Panel, Game Controllers, select the X52 and click on properties. When the properties for the X52 come up, click on the 'About' tab and you'll see a blue link which will automatically take you to the Saitek website and automatically start the download of the software for you. From memory it is about 16Mb.

I hope this helps you get started......
