Hey. I got my controller installed it and downloaded the Americas Army profile,set up the controls but when i go to play the game,my guy will always look down and even if i make him look up,he'll just go back slowly to looking down. Do i have a screwed up controller or is it something i can fix. Any help would be appreciated.

Same trouble here with Saitek ST290 Pro joystick, with Americas Army, the guy keeps going down, even when I bring him back up, he does the same.
I tried calibration and reading all the manuals and help, no luck so far.

Hi,
It's because the game assigns the throttle on your stick to the looking up/down controls. Centre the throttle in the middle of its movement and that should solve that.

Can you give just a little more info about setting the throttle, and is there a description of all the buttons on the ST290 Pro? Is the throttle the forward and backwards motion of the stick?
Thanks for the help.

No, the throttle is the lever on the base of the stick that only goes up and down - it's not the stick itself. As for the buttons, there's no info on what they do because what they do changes from game to game. You can usually change what they do using the game's control options screen.

I have been watching this thread for a while now. No offense to ANYBODY in these forums, especially Delvair who appears to be the only concerned Saitek employee (are you even an employee Delvair or just a register user?). But what you have here is a product that DOES NOT WORK!. You may very well get it working eventually but in the mean time you (Saitek) is flat out lying to and stealing from each and every one of us.
Do you guys really think that my kids or I want to follow a tech thread for a couple of weeks, try everything that makes any sense and a lot of what does not (I happen to be a Systems Engineer for very reputable company) I get this stuff... as do many of the people in this forum but how many poor suckers are just sitting out there feeling like complete idiots with a brand new completely useless joystick in their hand saying "sure does look cool huh?".
Saitek needs yes NEEDS to step up to the plate NOW and make things right.
HOW in the HECK do you release a driver that does not even make it to the sys tray, how do you let this much time pass with extremely little action. There are still web sites out there boasting and singing praises about the ST290 Pro and actually pushing this colossal failure on an unsuspecting public. You guys are living your dream out of our pockets with NOTHING in return NOTHING (ok maybe a headache). Please... let’s see a response from the president of the company or is he to rich and cool to deal with us. and follow that up with an ANSWER (not an attempt) an answer, from your TOP ENGINEER, you know who he is.
Please don’t get me wrong – I have used Saitek products for years now. They are never the most intuitive or easy to get started controllers on the market but damn who ever designees them is freakin’ excellent. Award winning aesthetics’ and usually with pretty fair performance. You should be ashamed of yourselves – Ill shut up now that sounded like my mother.

I never got a fix to work after trying all that were presented, found no other fixes while searching the net. So my ST290 Pro joystick is silently sitting in its box in the closet until I see some new suggestions to correct the up and down looking problem. Thanks for all the suggestions presented.

In the System directory within the directory where America's Army is installed on your computer you will find a file called user.ini. Open it and look for the following lines:
JoyX=Axis aStrafe SpeedBase=300.0 DeadZone=0.1
JoyY=Axis aBaseY SpeedBase=300.0 DeadZone=0.1 Invert=-1
JoyZ=
JoyR=
JoyU=
JoyV=Axis aBaseX SpeedBase=2.0 DeadZone=0.4
JoySlider1=Axis aLookUp SpeedBase=2.0 DeadZone=0.4
Simply delete the info next to JoyV and Joyslider and that will remove the assignment for hte looking up/down and left/right from the throttle/rudder on the stick.

okay i took off the code
JoyV=(Axis aBaseX SpeedBase=2.0 DeadZone=0.4)
JoySlider1=(Axis aLookUp SpeedBase=2.0 DeadZone=0.4)
it did stop the view from going down...but i still cant use the right analog
all the other bottons work fine, just cant get the analog to......does anyone know how to fix this problem..

Hex%, those instructions were for people using a joystick to control the game and it stops those actions from working at all. If you're using a pad then you need to re-add those lines and then increase the number next to the deadzone. You'll need to experiment to find a setting that works well for you.

ok this is not exactly relevant to what you have posted and im not sure if this is where im meant to put my comment but i wanted to ask how you configured the joystick on the whole for AA. :confused: Also does your configuration work for the basic training section of the game? I want to fire the weapon with button 1 and control the aim direction by moving the stick.

You should be able to configure the buttons on the stick within the game in the same way that you reassign keys. As for the stick movements, if you want the stick to move the character then leave it as it is there. If you want the stick to aim then you'll need to change this:
JoyX=Axis aStrafe SpeedBase=300.0 DeadZone=0.1
JoyY=Axis aBaseY SpeedBase=300.0 DeadZone=0.1 Invert=-1
to this:
JoyX=Axis aBaseX SpeedBase=2.0 DeadZone=0.4
JoyY=Axis aLookUp SpeedBase=2.0 DeadZone=0.4

Hi,
Well it's your throttle that's assigned to the look command, as I've stated earlier in the thread - the game has automatically done this.
This solution should work though:
In the System directory within the directory where America's Army is installed on your computer you will find a file called user.ini. Open it and look for the following lines:
JoyX=Axis aStrafe SpeedBase=300.0 DeadZone=0.1
JoyY=Axis aBaseY SpeedBase=300.0 DeadZone=0.1 Invert=-1
JoyZ=
JoyR=
JoyU=
JoyV=Axis aBaseX SpeedBase=2.0 DeadZone=0.4
JoySlider1=Axis aLookUp SpeedBase=2.0 DeadZone=0.4
Simply delete the info next to JoyV and Joyslider and that will remove the assignment for the looking up/down and left/right from the throttle/rudder on the stick.
Failing that, leaving the throttle in its centre position should stop the view from looking down.
