Hi everybody,
New to the boards, but am looking for help.
Last year I bought an X-45 joystick, and have enjoyed it very much. It
uses the SST type software.
Recently, my son has started playing the same flight-sim games with me, so I
bought another X-45 from e-bay for him to use. The 2nd one, however, seems to
be an older model with the SGE type software on the disk.
Why will the newer (SST) software not recognize the older x-45? When I plug
it in, the computer acts like it doesn't see it, and neither does the Saitek
software.
Then, on my son's computer, I installed the older SGE CD, and the stick seemed
to work ok.
Now, I've bought a newer computer, and am letting my son use the one I was
using. again, however, the SST software would not recognize the older
joystick, so I installed the older CD w/o removing the newer software first.
This seems to ahve created some problems, because there are some things like
the profiler, and othe files that I'm unable to remove from my computer.
So, my questions are:
1) What should I do?
2) Is there a way to make the older x-45 work with the SST software?
3.)If I try to buy another x-45, how can I tell which version I'm getting
before I buy it?

Thank you for your help and suggestions!

Hi & welcome, :)

1) wait for Monday until UKSupport is back at work as I fear that this is 1 for him ....
Have you tried using SD 4.3.3.1727 (http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/down/sstdown.htm)?

2) it ought to. I'm using an X36USB (older than any X45) with SST.

3) unless you buy from somewhere with very slow turnover or bad stock rotation you "ought" to get a more recent 1. The SGE type disk indicates that stick is around 3-4 years old.
The only major change that I know of during the X45s life was when they went from a chip with manual calibration to 1 that auto-calibrates & that was a considerable time ago (~18 months iirc). The 2 different types do require different drivers though - both are included in the later driver pack.

Thanks for your help, Buff! What is the "SD4.3.3.1727?

How did you get your x-36 to work with the SST software? Mine won't even recognize the x-45.

again, thanks for your help so far!

What is the "SD4.3.3.1727?[/b]
SD 4.3.3.1727 (http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/down/sstdown.htm) is the latest public release of the SST drivers/software package.
I've made it a hyperlink so that you just have to click on it & it will take you to the page to choose for which OS you want it.

How did you get your x-36 to work with the SST software? Mine won't even recognize the x-45.
It just works because it was designed to. :p

I have a theory here which is why I asked if you had tried SD4.3.3.1727 but I could be wrong. I'm presuming :
1) you have 1 each of the manual calibration chip & the auto calibration chip X45s
2) the driver disk that came with your auto-calibration chip only had the driver for that (remember I said that the 2 types use different drivers?).
Hence if you try to use the driver disk from that X45 with the earlier 1 it won't find a driver ...
btw could you tell us which version of SST it is (in the profile editor go to the "about" tab or the CD may have something written on it)

So please download & try SD4.3.3.1727 - at the very least trying it will move us further down the road to a fix.
You might want to try & clear up the muddle with old & new on at the same time first - if it is on WinXP you can roll back.

Buff,
That did the trick - thank you very much!!!! I just deleted all the old, mixed up stuff, downloaded the patches you advised, and now the older one works as well as the newer one.
Thank you again!
