View Full Version : X52 and X52&N52 Gamepad Fixes for Battlefield Series, Final Version
Ok folks, this is it. I have worked on it, taken time off from it, gone back to it, and finally I am calling it quits on working on the air.con and .dat files for the X52 and Battlefield: 1942/ Vietnam. This doesn't mean I won't be helping people getting it running, just that I am not releasing any more air.cons and/or .dat files.
So you don't go downloading the new version, there has been many changes, if any. I tweaked the air.con in both 42 and Vietnam so that everything except the axis are controlled by the saitek software. (different from earlier versions where the trigger and alternate fire were mapped in the air.con). You now have greatly flexibility in programming your stick the way YOU want it, not the way I want it :D I also made a short video to go with the "fix" for those visual learners out there. BUT please, read the README first :D !

Edit: And here's the link to the video that Drayu made:

EDIT: If it doesn't work for you, then right click and choose "Save target as", then run the file from where you saved it to.

First off i`d like to express my appreciation for your hard work. thank you.
I used your patch and it works great. But i am having difficulty with one thing and that is at the end of your video you say we can reprogram the button operation on the X52 mod you made. i like everything you did on the setup except piggbacking the main fire and missle macro. i tried to clear it twice but it willnot obey. Am i missing something here? I just purchased this X52 and it is the first dual control stick I`ve ever used and after a couple of hours i`m getting the hang of it. Not to brag but i am a very good chopper pilot with the right stick. Even though the speed seems a little slower than i`m used to it is a very smooth ride. Anyway i`m also a precission gunner and i dearly need main fire and missles to be absolutly seperate. I hope you can help and again i thank you

hello i have a few questions regarding these fixes, for i am planning on purchasing an x52
1. does this fix the twist rudder problems on battlefield games. i heard about it on a review, and i see that some users were having this same problem.
2. what is the n52?
3. does the joystick have the twist rudder problem with bf2?

Hi,
1. Yes, it fixes the twist rudder problems on the first Battlefield games
2. The N52 is a product made by Nostromo
3. It all works just fine in BF2.

Tried your joystick fix, still cant get the joystick to work, other then buttons. no flight control what so ever. Did a fresh install also.
I called the Tech Support Phone #, they wernt any help. Seems they make a product and dont support it, other then it breaking. No help at all getting it configed for a game. Big waste of $159.
The fix you posted wasnt for BF2, is there a differant one?
I follwed instructions, but when it got to the my MY DOCUMENTS part, well it wasnt as your file said. There isnt a air.con anywhere in that Battlefield folder. (in my documents).
Anyhelp?

Rurik, you don't need to use these files for BF2. Just go into the control options of BF2, click the Controls button at the top, then click the Aircraft button.
Now look down the central list of controls in there - click in the box of the secondary column, next to Pitch Forward, then push the stick forwards; it should come up with an Axis number and will have also filled in Pitch Back for you. Just do that for all the axes and you should be fine.

In BF2 the profile folders seem to be completely different. For one thing they are not named.... I don't have an aircon file in my docs section despite following the instructions. I've reinstalled several times trying to get this to work.
I have tried to use the options in game, that doesn't work either. Half the bottons are recognized as the same thing. The throttle does the same thing in each direction....
Could you please update instructions for BF2, or anyone who has it working in BF2 explain what they did. nice joystick, but worthless to me at this point.

Just wanted to say thank you Drayu. I was having the "no rudder" problem in 1942. The fix worked like a charm.
No Idea how this works though :) , with the read only thing and the new folder in MyDocs.
Video was a great help and an excellent idea. Couldn't understand the readme at all. :)
Thanks again mate ;)

Hi, first of all thanks for all the effort you've put into this. Now for my problem, I got the x52 for Xmas and it works fine in BF2. I recently reinstalled bf42 and I've gone through the instructions 3 times and watched the video as well but when i finish and go into game the only thing that works are the buttons. Anything on an axis, pitch, throttle, and rudder doesn't work. I've been able to go into the profile and remap some of the buttons to the way i like but can't do anything for the axis controls.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
p.s. i did use the x52 download even tho i posted in the wrong thread earlier ;)

For the life of me, I CANNOT get this thing to work with bg1942. I have tried and re-tried the instructions that Drayu posted with replacing the AIR.CON and .DAT file and it still won't work.
I did notice that I was not prompted for the advanced user installation of the x52. I uninstalled it and installed it again and still nothing. It just doesn't work.
There is nothing I hate more than companies releasing products that have not been througgly tested. I understand it's next to impossible to test the x52 on EVERY thing out there, but once it's become apparent that LOTS of people are having the same problem and Saitek just stand idly and does nothing to rememedy, that's when I have a problem.
If they start getting a lot of these coming back saying they're "Defective" then they'll know why.
Where's my Cyborg flight stick?
Drayu
20th January 2006, 22:07
dude, I understand you are upset, but you have to realize that it isn't saitek that is in the wrong here. The stick works great, it is EA/DICE that screwed up, they didn't allow you to program the right number of axis.
Now, on to your real problem, the stick not working. My first question is, do you have ANY other controllers plugged in? Did you watch the video on what you are supposed to do and also read the directions I posted? Make sure you go step by step precisely, 99% of the time someone just missed a SMALL step, the other 1% is people with another joystick or gamepad plugged in.
If you have patience, it will work....it has for EVERYBODY else.

There's no need to "fix" anything on the X52 in BF2 - BF2 recognises all the main axes correctly on the X52. What problem are you having exactly?

Go back into the BF2 setup and make sure you press right when you to roll right, up when you pitch up......etc....
UKSupport
2nd March 2006, 10:04
And if you find that doesn't work, you'll need to reset the controls back to defaults and then start again with reassigning them. When you do, only use the Secondary column for reassigning and you only need to assign one direction of each axis - e.g. for Pitch Up and Pitch Down, you only need to assign Pitch Up; the game will fill in Pitch Down for you.

I've got the same Problems in Battlefield 2 with my Cyborg Evo Force.
In the Controlpanel i can see why: If i turn the rudder right, it centers and if i left the rudder in the middle after that, all works and it's shown as "centered".
But everytime i turn the stick to the left after that and left it alone again, it's schon as partally right!!!
And this is really anoying: i can't calibrate the joystick manually.
So if I'm playing BF2, that's why the airplane always steers to right!
Did somebody try to start with this "feature" ?;)
So if anybody has something useable to fix this problem, i would appriciate any help.

Thank you , the fix works fine
only thing i need to know , is how to map the different views to one hat switch, rather than cycling through them
In bf2 i have managed to set mouse view to a key on the stick
and use the mini stick on the throttle to move pilots head
Have not been able to do that also
any ideas :)

26th March 2006, 22:12
I mapped my confirmation/deny-Commands to the coolie-hat-directions up/down. I don't know if there's any solution to this, because i think, theres only a function to cycle throug the views, so afaik theres no commandlistener in their python script, which may switch to view 1,2,3 or 4 directly.

It gets counteracted when I try that.
When I do the edit profile in the x52 software, the throtle bands are empty. When I edit it, and use it again, it gets counteracted. When I go down to the 11-49%, it uses the "S" key, which is the default.

First of all...THANK YOU DRAYU for all that you've contributed here. I also had difficulty using the X-52 and BF1942. And, yes, I also missed a small step in the config at first, but got it working and took your advice of "never go back into the controls, once configured". Many thanks there.
My current issue is with BF2, as that's all I've been playing for months now...I used your .dat file and it worked great for almost a year. Then, all of a sudden, and sporadically, the mouse would start drifting upward continuously while flying. Nothing I tried would stop it, unless I got out and rebooted, (it would continue even after clearing the profile, end-tasking profileu and even disconnecting the joystick altogether.
After MUCH agony and trial and error with this, I believe I've discovered where the problem is...I found that if I manipulate the mini-mouse "just so"...the mouse operates normally, as long as I hold it there. Further, I found that if I uninstalled the SST software altogether, Voila! no more issue. Except that now, of course, BF2 doesn't recognize all the buttons and it sees different button presses as the same command in the controls section of BF2 so only half the buttons can be used, (hence, the validity of using your dat file...which has worked GREAT).
I am completely lost with this...is there any way to disable the darn mini-mouse to avoid this issue? I don't use it anyway, and I just don't understand why this issue suddenly cropped up and won't go away, (perhaps due to an update in BF2? or updated SST software?...I don't have any idea). I have reinstalled my system completely, and started from a clean install of BF2 and a new X-52 as well (I will post the reason for that later). I also used the updated drivers in addition to the SST software from Saitek's site.
Please help if you can...Thanks so much for all you've contributed to date.

Thanks Drayu,
I did that last night after the first post and found a plethora of information on the subject. It seems there are theories on everything from USB porting issues, to H/W faults, (as quoted by Saitek Support), and settings to change the mini-mouse settings in the profile editor to "bands" and set some dead zones.
What I have found is that it is definitely an issue with the "Saitek Magic Mouse" software from the SST installation. I disabled this in device manager and Voila! No further issues to report...problem solved. I thought it worth noting that I can still use the button-click adjacent to the mini-mouse, as well as the "wheel" on the back side of the throttle, (much to my delight).
This fixes it for me, but for those that want to use the mini-mouse...I haven't tried the profile change to "bands" for this so I don't know if it works.
Perhaps there was an update in BF2, or Microsoft that is at the root of why the SST Magic Mouse is behaving this way, but I hope that Saitek will take the time to go back to their developers to see if they can fix it. This thing drove me crazy trying to fix, and rendered flight in BF2 INOP for over a couple of months. I don't think the average user should have to be going through all this grief just to use the software that comes with the Flight System (beautiful, as it is).
Saitek .....PLEASE address this issue for your commited community of users!
Many thanks again, Drayu! :) If not for your profile contributions, I could not have ever used it with full functionality in the first place! Saitek should be paying you! Alot!!
Sincerely,
Coolhand (once again airborne!)

Drayu, thats awesome contributing you did with the patch and the video. It helped a lot! I still have a couple questions though. The first of which, do you have to or should you go into Battelfield options when you open the game, and assign your joystick controls there as well even if the joystick is programmed with your patch? And if I wanted to use another profile, and created my own x52 profile for that bf profile, do I have to do all the stuff where you go in, and play for 5 sec.s and then go delete the aircon.file, and all that good stuff? Or do you simply build your own profile on the js with the key configs for the game, and simply dial that in? And last but not least, how do you make the profile your using save to the mode switch? If you can help me with these questions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again for all that you have already done.

do you have to or should you go into Battelfield options when you open the game, and assign your joystick controls there as well even if the joystick is programmed with your patch?
Once you program the stick the first time, you don't have to touch a thing. The patches should leave everything as they were.
If you want to create your own profile you do not need to do anything with the air.con file in BF2, however in bf1942 or bfv you may. If you change any of the axis, then yes in bf1942 or bfv you would have to redo the air.con file.
In bf1942 and bfv all of the joystick axis are not recognized, that is why you have to edit the air.con. There are no buttons programmed into the air.con other than the mouselook, therefore you can create any profile you want (remembering not to mess with the axis), just save it and load it. In BF2, everything can be programmed right in the game, there is no need to do a air.con fix, however I like to use the SST software to program the buttons (I program all of my axis in game).
And last but not least, how do you make the profile your using save to the mode switch?
If you want to program the buttons to something different on each mode, then choose the mode you want while editing the file, make the changes and then save. Then all yuo have to do is roll the mode selector in game to pick the one you want.

Mechwarrior 4, Combat Flight Simulator, etc, but for some reason in Battlefield 2 it's just not even showing up as an option. Hi,
Are you going into the Controls screen in the game, clicking one of the tabs at the top (Aircraft tab, for example) then clicking in the blank space of the secondary column next to the control that you want to reassign? At that point, if you then press/move a part of the stick, it should get picked up by the game.
Reassign all the controls you need like that and then see how you go.

If what Richard says still doesn't work, then:
1. Load up a profile and then open notepad. Press any button on the stick, you should see the corresponding key in notepad be typed in (eg, if button1=A then when you press button1 you should see the letter A in notepad).
2. How many controllers, gamepads, gaming keyboards, gaming devices do you have plugged in?

I've checked to make sure alt fire is only mapped to one button, and it still does it. I've checked the second trigger switch and did the clear program....still squeezing trigger make both guns and bombs go. Any hel is much appreciated.....thnx

I downloaded this for my X-52 and all I can get to work are the throttle and stick, no buttons. Is their a solution to this or am I screwed?

It sounds like you didn't enable the profile. there is a little icon next your clock for the x52, right click it and choose the profile you want.

It's enabled, I even made another to see if the one that came in the zip was broken or something but it still doesn't work.

make sure you have the latest drivers and software from the announcements section. If you do and it is still not working, then you may have missed a step. Also, make sure that you are using the profile that you edited, not a different one. I know when I played bf42 and bfv, I had multiple profiles.

Everything had been smooth sailing with no problems at all. Last night the dropping bombs on 2nd trigger thing started again. I use the profile that I downloaded with your fix and like I stated all was working good. If I check the profile in profile editor, there is nothing assigned for 2nd trigger or pinkie switch, but yet when either are activated or pressed, it triggers the Alt fire. I've resaved the profile in editor but nothing is changing. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thnx.

To go from working to not working huh.....that is weird. Check a few things:
1. Are all the buttons lighting up in the control panel?
2. Enable the profile, then open a notepad or wordpad file. Press the buttons, do the corresponding "buttons/letters" come up?
3. Make sure for some odd reason you bf profile didn't change

Hopefully someone still checks here, But I had to re-install my OS and everything else including BF 1942. I had this problem before and can't remember how I fixed it. In your X52 BF 1942 profile in profile editor, you had the alt fire mapped to trigger 2 and a few other things. I changed some of the settings in Profile editor, I opened the X521942 profile, used the "clear programming" command on the ones I don't use and all I need to do now is make the "Fire C " button alt fire. I've mad the changes and saved them but the changes don't take effect for some reason.

Hi, Drayu.
Many thanks for your hard work. Like Icarus, I can fly now and it's a wonderful feeling !
However, I've been unable to modify your profile. It was really good but, for personal convenience, I'd like to modify it as follows :
- Second trigger = Fire 1
- Fire = Alternate Fire
I've loaded the profile, made these 2 adjustments, saved the modifications and reloaded the profile before playing the game. Unfortunately, the changes haven't been taken into account. :(
Did I mess up something ???
P.S. : apologies for my bad English !

It looks right to me, but lets do this in steps.
1. take the original profile I posted and load it. Make sure everything works
2. If it does, then change one thing (delete the second trigger mapping)save and reload
3. Check to see if it is working in game, if it is go to next step
4. Now map the mouse button to trigger 2 and save and reload
5. Try in game and make sure it works
6. Repeat small steps to see if it is working
Let me know where the breakdown occurs.
Drayu
15th October 2006, 13:10
you could also try mapping the trigger as the spacebar instead of the mouse button.

Just the X52 Throttle and Stick. I previously had a Cyborg 3D USB Gold, but I don't think that's the problem. I'm very close to just unistalling everything BF1942 related. I.E. Desert Combat, DCFinal, Forgotten Hope, etc. and completely deleting the bf42 folder. I don't want to do this, cause it is ALOT of information. But i've closely followed the instructions 4 times and still no go, so I'm thinking I have an issue with too many air.con files from over the years, and it may be defaulting back to one of those :( Could that be possible?
Drayu
6th January 2007, 16:28
there is only one air.con per profile. If you don't make it read-only it will default causing your stick not to work. The only place you will find profiles are in the two places I mention in the directions.

Read this thread to give you input. You may be able to use the air.con and have to make your own SST. In short, BF1942 only allows for one controller, if you have two you have edit the air.con for it to work.

is there some easy way to get around this? .dat to .pro? something must have changed recently...
Drayu
30th March 2008, 14:55
the .dat was the original format, then .pro, but if you have the latest software and drivers it is .pr0 and there is no way to convert it. The profile has to be remade :(
NavalLord
27th April 2008, 21:25
I have the latest software (using .pr0) and I made my own profile for BF42 but none of the buttons work. I have it loaded as the active profile and all the axis and throttle on the joystick work (thanks to your air.con) but none of the buttons on the joystick work. I mapped them out in the profile to the same buttons on my keyboard and mouse (primary fire = left click, secondary fire = right click). It's very frustrating flying with a joystick but having to shoot with a mouse and do everything else on the keyboard. Four control devices and two hands doesn't work well.

Someone in another forum suggested I post here a simple way to get the twist
rudder for the X52 working in Battlefield 1942. So, here goes...
(BF42=Battlefield 1942)
Go into the BF42 folder and find your profile and make air.con read only
(usually c:\program files\ea games\battlefield 1942\mods\bf1942\settings\profiles\whatever-your-profile-is\controls). Then
in the game, go to air controls and save, then exit. Then, go into your
Documents folder and find bf42 and eventually air.con. Edit air.con and add
after this line:
ControlMap.addKeysToAxisMapping c_PIYaw IDFKeyboard IDKey_D IDKey_A
(assuming you have A and D for the keyboard rudder control)
this:
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIYaw IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_5 0 1
(Change IDFGameController_0 to match whatever else is set for that
Controller in Air.con, for instance, this is my pitch control:
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIPitch IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_1 1 1)
Save it and make it read only. Every time BF42 saves air.con, it wipes out the rudder control line, so it has to be made read only.
In Vista, air.con can be found in ....documents\battlefield 1942\mods\bf1942\settings\profiles\[whatever your profile is]\Controls\Air.con
I forget exactly where it is in XP but should be something similar.
Drayu

yup, that is exactly what my directions are :) I just added a bunch more into it with some profiles to go along :)

Drayu
19th May 2008, 04:09
the writer is moi :) And yes, I have it so that people replace the entire file, but it is only a few lines that are changed. It was easier than trying to explain how to do it.
But, to each their own.

I'm a total newb when it comes to trying to map the axises and all that tekie stuff.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Drayu
26th September 2008, 18:55
I am not sure if the X52pro has the same axis as the X52, if they don't then the air.con needs to be edited to reflect the correct axis. As for the profile not working, if you are using the old profile with the new drivers/software then it won't work and you need to rewrite the profile.
Hope that helps,
Drayu

I've got it all working. I think it was partially due to the problems I was having before I reformatted.

I too would like thank you for all the work you did on the 1942 & BV fixes.
I do have a question though regarding how I am suppose to make a new profile when I'm unsure what you had in the old one. Basically, I didn't change a thing in the profile you created. I found it to be quite adequate for my purposes. However, now I'm clueless as to what was in there.

I very much agree that BF2 was a step back in the franchise. While we gained VOIP (very important IMO) we lost naval battles, mounted gun emplacements, and much more. Even BF Vietnam had something on BF2, it had this ambiance that made you feel in the environment. BF2 is too "clean".
But, back to the X52, if I ever get BF42 reinstalled, I will work on a profile, but no promises for the near future.

Well hello all.
I'm new to the forum and fairly new to owning an X52. A friend of mine gave me his..it looks awesome and I've had a little bit of luck mapping some of the buttons for DC..specifically for the aircraft. I LOVE the Mi HIND Helo..it rocks and I'm very anxious to get a working profile for it. I can map the buttons for primary fire (hydra's) and the secondary fire (hellfire's) but if I want to lift off I have to move the throttle up and down constantly..some I'm not doing something right. I'd like to help and contribute to this " project " (the X52 1942/DC project) :)..that's what I'll call it..lol. I have XP home with SP3. I tried Drayu's initial fix but found out that it won't work since it's in dat file vs pr0. I can be reached on YIM at ambush359 or feel free to message me here directly or posting in the forum.

I wanted to say thanks for the effort in this. I used your original solution and then this latest file. I do have one thing I'm curious about trying. I want to know how to reverse the throttle settings..so when I pull back / push the throttle down, the helo goes up..I want to use that like the collective on a real helo. I tried the profile editor for the bf1942 profile but it didn't show anything in use for the throttle. Also tried using the control settings in BF1942 but no effect there either. I have to remap a few buttons (eject, parachute..a few others..)but other than that it's great. I really would like to learn how to do this on my own. Would anyone consider getting together in a teamspeak or ventrilo server and teaching this ? I can offer a free teamspeak server to log onto if this could be done.

Don't worry about me....I'll get by...somehow...sniff...sniff. :D I've just got to figure out how to use this thing. At least with the 3d setup, I knew which button I was playing with with certainty. Now I'm guessing. I don't understand how to make it not a pinkie...but a button or trigger yet...but I'll figure it out eventually. Thanks again....and good luck on the server. Now...if you also know about setting up an FTP server with Linux...................

eastcoast: I am always on our TS when at the computer. Check my link for our website, the TS addy is there. But in brief, you need to edit the air.con and reverse the throttle assignments.
Silver: Fear not, I will get to it. As for not having the 3D, the buttons are labeled as they are on the X52. Look for pinkie, then click the small arrow and change it to report as button (at least that is what I think it says). Then once that is done, you can right click it and choose the command you want it to be.

hello everyone,
sorry for my bad english i am from Germany.
I buy the x52 Joystick.
First tanks a lot for your fix. But i have the problem does the fire and map button work. But the joystick didnīt work, the mouse working for the flight options. When i look at the profil i see that is your options with all right thinks. So turn left is joystick button for turn left.
Ingame itīs doesnīt work? Without the saitek software i can use the joystik but without the important option Rowing "roll". BF does not recognize it.
Is your fix for fly with mouse or with the joystick?

The fix posted is for the X52 in both BF1942 and BF:Vietnam. To use the stick you must apply the air.con file and then NOT change anything in the air setup tab.
Once you enable the profile, you should have the buttons on the stick working.

The path i see is C/Program files/EAGAMES/Battlefield1942/Mods/bf1942/Settings/Default/Controls/ and there is an Air file there, i used to see my profile after entering Settings. Any ideas or can i change the Default Air con file?

Hello I am having trouble getting my X52 recognised in BF2
I have tried this fix to no avail and could use some help.
I realise this is an old thread but would love to find a way to use my joystick in a game I have loved for years
I used to use a Logitech Freedom 2.4 and enjoyed my time in the air but since upgrading to the Saitek X52 I have not been able to use it.
I am looking forward to some assistance.

Hi,
Do you have any other game controllers connected at all?
Glenno
21st March 2009, 03:46
I have the Logitech Profiler which runs my Freedom 2.4 when attached and also my G25 Steering wheel and pedals.
I had noticed that when using my Saitek X52 in Flight Simulator X the G25 spins the wheel so I unattach it while flying.
I also have software for a Belkin n52te game pad but do not have it connected when flying
The Keyboard I use is a G15 and the mouse is a G9 both Logitech
Is there any issues with running dual monitors also?
Thanks for for interest in helping me try to solve this challenge
Regards, Glenn

oh and another thing, I put the .dat file into the folder it is supposed to go into and it does not show up on the profiler

I am pretty positive that your problem is all the controllers you have plugged in. Try playing with JUST the x52 plugged in and see what happens. The .dat file is out of date due to the new SST and drivers. I thought I had posted up a .pr0 file in a post a little while ago. If you can't find it, then that is what you will need to create, a new profile.

:D I have finally nutted it out and have been happily playing away:D
I have recently installed the Acceleration expansion pack in Flight Simulator X and I couldn't be happier and loving flying around in Battlefield Series
Thank you all your help

see some people are not sure how to set up the pinkie switch.
Just remove the three modes that have +pinkie in them :)
The grey box will change to white in the first 3 modes and now you can set it to what you want.

Hi,
Do you have any other game controllers connected at all?I'm have issues with my X52pro, when I'm flying in IL-2, I have my prop pitch assigned to a rotor on the throttle but I can be flying and without touching anything my prop pitch will go from 100% down to 0 if I don't intervene. This only happen on the throttle rotors. Any Ideas? Thanks Carl

the profiles on the first page might be old. Go to page 10, there is a new .pr0 profile there.

I don't know if this has been covered, but this is a huge thread... anyway:
I followed the instructions (Mostly, read on...) and everything is working fine except for the fire buttons, maybe the other ones like "map" or "eject" too, but I didn't try them. So the stick and the thrust works.
I couldn't do the profile step, because I don't seem to have that in my task bar. I've downloaded the latest software off Saitek's website.
Also, how to I lower the sensitivity? Flying was sooo shaky, but I can't find where to turn it down.

To use the profile you have to:
1. Install the x52 drivers
2. Install the SST software
3. Put the BF profile in the right location (different on XP and Vista)
4. Click the joystick icon in the taskbar and choose the profile you want
5. Go play
This is the same for all BF games, however this thread is just for BF1942 and BFV, so you if you are looking for the BF2 profile, it is on a different thread.

ive copy pasted this from my other input it dont look that one gets read anymore ok here goes
ok ive had to format and spent last 3 hours trying to get this to work so im gonna go step by step checking each line in the read me file to see if missing something
You must first copy the air.con file into:
I am working off a clean install of all of BF1942. After I did I clean install. If you haven't done a clean install, you can just set all buttons within BF1942 to the default settings. (BTW, you only have to do this once, so don't complain about the steps if you want it to work)
yep clean install
STOP....Make a copy of the original air.con file and put somewhere safe incase this doesn't work for you!!!
ok done that
YOU DON'T HAVE TO CONFIGURE ANYTHING IN THE BF1942 AIR CONTROL SET UP!!! Doing so will mess up this fix!
1. Go into BF1942 and set up a profile.
done
2. Set any sound, video, infantry, vehicle, etc settings you like, leave the air tab alone.
done
3. Jump into a single player game and then quit it.
done
4. Exit out of the game.
done
5. Navigate to where you have BF1942 installed and go to the folder (where mine says Drayu should be your profile name): C:\Games\Battlefield bf1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\Drayu\Control s
bit confused here, no profile with my name after
creating one, just default and custom so choose custom
6. Left click the air.con file and mark it as "read-only" by right clicking and then choosing properties and then "read-only"
done
7. Exit out of that folder and load up BF1942
done
8. Make a game and then once loaded quit and exit out of BF1942. This will create a new folder in your "my documents" location
where you say make a game i take it you mean create game
(lan/local chose local), exited
9. Go to the folder(where mine says Drayu should be your profile name): C:\Documents and Settings\Drayu\My Documents\Battlefield 1942\mods\BF1942\Settings\Profiles\Drayu\Controls
i see it
10. Copy and then paste my air.con file located in this zip folder into the above directory.
done
11. At this point you MUST mark my air.con file as "read only" by right clicking and then choosing properties and then "read-only"! IF you load up BF1942 without doing this the file WILL revert to the old air.con and will not work for you!!!
done
12. You are all done with setting up your controller so that you can fly, now you have to set up the controller to be able to use additional buttons on the controller. See the next section for instructions.
done , but throttle not working or pitch yaw etc or any fire buttons
ive copied in the BF1942 profile and that doesnt do anything aswell
really p**d off i had this working before i formatted

ok it now it works dunno what i did but yes i can fly me jets, but now me mouse wont control the copters, no response at all i use mouse and wasd
wasd works but nothing from me mouse, even tho in the settings it says mouse axis 0 and 1 in the default column for pitch etc
doing my head in
oh i did also find out accidently that my steering wheel (which was plugged in before) tilted me copters, i unplugged it, and re pasted the air.con, that seemed to fix the flying bit (apart from now no mouse) mouse works when not in jet/copter
how do i find out my axis settings and post them to you
matskiuk

no forget it, ive scrapped it, going back to my logitech
Drayu
17th August 2009, 01:19
Well if you had your steering wheel in, then that was the issue. I might not have mouse settings for the choppers in there because I don't use them. That is more than likely why it isn't working for you.

hmm....I will have to look into that. Might take me a few b/c I really only play Project Reality and until they update their mod I won't be updating BF2. But, once I do I will look into it!!

has something to do with the 2nd column called falcon or something, delete the key settings in there, then should work, so ive read anyway
phelan1777
3rd November 2009, 16:38
I found that by removing the "Falcon" settings in the second column I was able to get the X52 to work in BF2 as it was not reading X/Y axis till I made that change and things worked fine since.
whitedragon551

It worked fine for me in single player on BF2, but on multiplayer BF2 doesnt recognize any of the inputs from the stick. I have deleted all the Falcon stuff and still nothing.

try clearing the Falcon settings from both Chopper and jet?
I had to do so for each, before it started working. Reset your PC?

i used oyu files when you first did them they worked great so when i changed sst software i did the same it all worked accept that the rudder (yaw) were backwards any help?
sorry for bf 1942
UKSupport
26th February 2010, 10:14
If the rudder is back to front then you've assigned it incorrectly within BF's controls screen. Go back in there and reassign the Yaw Left option, making sure you twist the stick left. It should fill in the Yaw Right option for you as soon as you assign the left.

UKSupport
26th February 2010, 11:17
Well doing what I said should fix it, or you can edit the air.con file, look for the axis line for the Yaw and change the 0 at the end to a 1 (I think that's how you invert the axes - it's been a long time since I looked into this).

i changed 1 line to fix this .
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIYaw IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_5 0 3
just changed from 5 0 1 to 5 0 3 and it works perfectly.

Do u have to run this with an old version of the saitek software ?
I followed your instructions and no luck. I set up the controller just to see if the rudder, axis' etc all work fine... Unfortunately there is a permanent turn to the left. I repeated your process 2 more times to make sure it wasnt my mistake.
Also, for the second part of your fix I couldnt locate the "c:\programs\saitek\software" directory... Maybe thats the new software? I found an x52 profile folder in my docs --> shared docs and pasted the x52 BF1942.dat file in the folder, again, no luck.
Don't know what to do now, can anyone help ?

has to be the newest files with the newest software and drivers.
First of all.. Drayu you must have the patience of a saint to be still on this post helping people, however read on,
Reinstalled BF 42 after maybe 6 years of not gaming and had the problems that this thread is about. Although never had the rudder problem with an old Saitek ST90 Pro.. Now obviously upgraded to X52 so, got the fix, yes my rudders work many thanks.
With this .dat file for the stick's profile for some reason doesnt show in the menu when I right click the F.C.S. Icon next to the clock.. Also when I do jump into a plane and pull the trigger to fire it causes me to enter/ exit the plane, Any ideas?
No other game controller fitted although do have a G5 mouse and USB Keyboard.
