Ok folks, this is it. I have worked on it, taken time off from it, gone back to it, and finally I am calling it quits on working on the air.con and .dat files for the X45 and Battlefield: 1942/ Vietnam. This doesn't mean I won't be helping people getting it running, just that I am not releasing any more air.cons and/or .dat files.

So you don't go downloading the new version, there has been many changes, if any. I tweaked the air.con in both 42 and Vietnam so that everything except the axis are controlled by the saitek software. (different from earlier versions where the trigger and alternate fire were mapped in the air.con). You now have greatly flexibility in programming your stick the way YOU want it, not the way I want it :D I also made a short video to go with the "fix" for those visual learners out there. BUT please, read the README first :D !

PS...x52 final versions coming shortly.

Edit: And here's the link to the video that Drayu made:

ftp://ftp.saitek.com/pub/support/x45bfvvideo.wmv
EDIT: If it doesn't work for you, then right click and choose "Save target as", then run the file from where you saved it to.

Hey Drayu, again thanks for the work you've done with the X45 and BF1942 and BFV. Any word on whether the X45 will be supported in BF2, or are we gonna have to edit files again to get it to work?

Drayu...I also want to thank you for all of the time you've spent helping us x45 owners get it working with BF1942....OF course, while I've got air.con files that work for BF42, when I downloaded the BF2 Demo, the x45 didn't work with the aircraft....Will you be doing any work to get the x45 working with BF2?, or do you think copying the air.con files from BF42 to the BF2 folder would work?.....I'm sure alot of us will be asking many questions when BF2 is released, and I want to thank you for you help in advance...

will this work just as well for the x36? i know you're probably asked this 10 times a day-sorry.

your sticks should work fine in both the demo and the full version. set them up in game as the secondary inputs.

I'm afraid my sticks don't work (throttlewise anyway) in BF2. I tried my X45 and my Cyborg Evo. It's full throttle, Idle (if I nudge it just right) or full reverse. I need to be able to throttle down for bombing runs without taking my hands off the stick.

Micky, I'm having the same problems with my throttle. Hopefully someone can post a fix....

in BF2, even though this isn't the right thread :D , you need to make sure that you set up the controls in the SECOND column. IF you messed it up, then hit the default keys first, and start over. Also, if you have another stick or gaming device plugged in, try unplugging it and see what happens.

Well, i picked up an X45 for BF2. I seem to be able to map everything just fine with the exception of Pitch Up/Down. Throttle works fine. Rudder works fine. I haven't seen anyone else listing this problem. Ideas anyone?

Hi, first of all thanks for all the effort you've put into this. Now for my problem, I got the x52 for Xmas and it works fine in BF2. I recently reinstalled bf42 and I've gone through the instructions 3 times and watched the video as well but when i finish and go into game the only thing that works are the buttons. Anything on an axis, pitch, throttle, and rudder doesn't work. I've been able to go into the profile and remap some of the buttons to the way i like but can't do anything for the axis controls.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Need more info:

Game?
Problem?
What have you tried?

Also, make sure you have the latest drivers and software from the Announcements section of the forum.

Does anyone still have a bf1942 throttle fix for the X36 x35t pair laying around?
I tried the above x45 fix, but no go (wrong profile type). Thanks in advance!

Edit: after searching the forum again (..and again..) :p I found Blackshirtsguru's fix:

Ok all....I bought the x45 and I like many others couldn't get the controller to recognize the Throttle in game....Well here is what I did and it WORKED! First start up a profile and set all the buttons to what you want inside the game......Don't change the throttle S and W! Ok now go to your C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\(whatever you named your profile)
Inside the profile folder....Copy the Air.con folder and paste it right back in there.......Rename it User....Open up the User text file you just created and delete the entire contents in it....Now here is where you get the throttle to work!
INSIDE THE USER FILE COPY AND PASTE THESE LINES.

ControlMap.create AirPlayerInputControlMap
ControlMap.addKeysToAxisMapping c_PIThrottle IDFKeyboard IDKey_W IDKey_S
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIThrottle IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_4 1 1

That's it! Your all set now....WIth this set up, you can go back inside your air settings in game, and tweak your button settings....THE ONLY THING THAT YOU DON'T TOUCH IS THE THROTTLE SETTINGS, BUTTONS S AND W...

THIS WORKS FOR 1942 AND VIETNAM...Just go into your settings/profile and do the same thing...
Another great thing about this set up is you don't have to run the Saitek profiller, and you dont have to mark anything Read Only....You can go back into your in game settings and change any of the buttons to set it to the way that you like it...
Happy Gaming!

Hope reposting it here will help a few more. Worked for me!

Thanks to BSG, Drayu, and everyone who has fought to keep our left hands happy!!

I know that this is an old topic but, I'm new to the X52 and I wanted to give you cuddos on the fix for bf1942. The video wasn't available but the readme was impeccable! The fix worked like a charm and the flight stick operates wonderfully. Thank you for your efforts as I received the x52 as a gift and was worried that it wouldn't work for the older game! I do wish the mini mouse would work in-game but hey.....the setup looks impressive for such an old 42 nub! Thanks again

Sorry for pulling such an old thread back to life.
My problem is, I got the SD6 SST Saitek Programming Software, and it seems to be unable to read the Bf1942.dat file in the zip.

Can anybody tell me what to do?

Thanks in advance,

Daelin

unfortunately, the newest sst will not be able to read the old .dat formats :( You can still use the air.con, but you will have to recreate a profile. AND, yet again, unfortunately, I can't help you because I no longer have my x45 :(

I saw someone ask, "Does this work for BF2?", I never saw a reply and I can't get mine working either, pitch and roll is all outta whack

Drayu

This fix is for the BF1942 and BFV series. BF2 does not require the same fix, but it does require you to set it up in game. Make sure you are setting it up in the second column (alternate column) and leaving the default as is. Also, when it says pitch down, make sure you push forward on the stick, it then automatically sets the pitch up, and so on with the rest of the commands.

Hope that helps.

Hi I have a problem with BF2 and my X45... When I try to set the pitch fwd/back and roll right/left (tried the alternate column) nothing happens. I have the newest drivers I can get off the website and have calibrated the joystick. Every other button works along with the throttle.

Any ideas? :(

Hi, everything works great except the ibutton is now a toggle or profile switcher. I don't know how to turn it off even without the profiler it happens in game, it used to be my afterburner button. Any help would be greatly apprecieated :D

Go to the Properties for the stick in Game Controllers and uncheck the Clutch Button function option. That should get it working as a normal button again.

So I followed the instructions exactly only to arrive at the problem of my SST software not recognizing the .dat file as a profile. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

Drayu
24th August 2009, 14:03
.dat is an old file format. I believe there is a new file to download a few posts back.
