It is my understanding that this is not a common problem but it is known to happen with mixed USB devices and their drivers utilizing the dinput8.dll file. From what I’ve read on various support sites including Microsoft it is a memory conflict problem where memory isn’t being freed up resulting in DirectX errors. It seems to span across various versions of DirectX and prevents use of anything from joysticks to dongles in combination. My problem occurred when I installed a home automation device and my joystick became unusable. Any attempt to load a program using the joystick like Dxdiag, saitek control panel or games results in a CTD or OS error report. I’m curious if anyone in forum has resolved this DirectX issue with some tweak or update? I have Directx 9.0c installed and I’m all patched up with the latest drivers. Currently my only solution is to disable my USB connection to my home automation device when I want to use my joystick.
