Hi,

I have just bought an X52 and it looks great. The stick flies ok with my flight sim too.

There must be something I am doing wrong though .. because I can't program the buttons for some reason.

I have input a letter into the firebutton key (h) and saved it and made sure it loaded to the stick.

The stick says the profile is loaded ok .. but when I run wordpad and try to test the letter h by hitting the firebutton it just does not work.

I get nothing .. not even an indication on the throttle display.

Tried all sorts of different keys and buttons same result.

There was a microsoft sidewinder on my system before .. but that is not plugged in anymore.

HALLLP .... this is one wicked stick and I need it to work REAL bad :)

Hi,

I too have just purchased a shiny new X52. Unfortunatly, in any of the games I play, it only appears to support the normal joystick operations. I've created profiles which do not appear to work when tested in Word Pad as the documentation suggests. I've even tried downloading profiles from the web site, with much the same effect. I am enabling the profiles by selecting them from the system tray icon, because the MFD on the throttle recognises the new profile.

I've tried reinstalling the drivers both from the CD and the web site. At the moment, my expencive new toy will only work like the 10 quid game port flight stick it replaced. Any ideas people?

Have you tried reinstalling from the CD? If you have then with the controller plugged in, open the System icon in Control Panel and then click Hardware at the top of the window that comes up and then click Device Manager. You will have a category at the bottom of the list here that is called Universal Serial Bus Controller. Click the plus sign next to it and tell me what it then says underneath it. Do the same for the following categories:

Sound, Video and Game Controllers
Other Devices
Human Interface Devices
Saitek Magic Bus
Keyboards
Mice and other pointing devices

Hang on - Magic Bus doesn't appear? Well that explains why the programming isn't working. Could you try reinstalling again? You should get installations for a Saitek Magic Mouse and Keyboard when installing the programming software.

I've tried a reinstallation, however I never reach the end of the installation.
Like the manual says, I start the setup program with the controller detached.
After the initial window telling me to make sure I've unplugged I get a windows that says:

The drivers from your Saitek Controller are now ready to be installed.

To continue, click Next

(I click next, it installs some files)

This step has successfully completed.

To continue, click Next.

(I click next)

Please plug in your Saitek controller.

It will take several seconds for the controller to install.

When the installation is complete, you will be taken to the Controller Properties Screen.

(I plug in the stick and get a "Digital Signature Not Found" dialog for "Saitek X52 Stick (USB)" I say yes to continue. The windows device driver installtion window comes up for "Saitek X52 Stick (USB)", which I click through. The then get a message box: )

You must restart your computer before the new settings can take effect.

Do you want to restart your computer now?

(I click yes)

My computer restarts, and when I log in the whole process begins again.

If I don't restart my machine, the only button not greyed out on the wizard is Cancel.
The only way out of the loop is not to restart and to press Cancel. After another restart the process stops and Device Manager says that I have two Saitek HID devices:
Saiteck X52 Flight Stick (HID) and
Saiteck X52 Flight Stick (USB)

I don't think I have ever successfully completed the installation.
The instructions say nothing about a restart under Windows 2000.
Any ideas?

Okay,

Try browsing to the D:\WinLeg\WinNt\Software directory on your X52 CD and tun the setup.exe file from there - that should install the programming software along with the Magic Keyboard and Mouse.

Sorry. No joy.

I've tried running various setup programs on their own, both on the CD and from the downloaded drivers. Even after a restart, I check device manager and there are the two X 52 HID devices, but no magic bus and no additional keyboard or mouse devices.

I'm at a loss. It just feels like we're missing something here.

Any thoughts as to what?

Okay,

Try clicking Start>Run and type prfact -s and click OK. (that's case sensitive by the way).

See if that brings up a screen telling you that you need to install the Saitek Magic Bus and see if it starts installing the Magic Mouse and Keyboard.

The "prfact -s" command forces the system to look for drivers for the Magic Bus, I had a little trouble finding the .inf files, but in the end they were already installed at C:\Program Files\Saitek\Drivers\Inf.

Device manager confirmed that the Saitek Magic bus has been added along with two additional USB devices:
Saitek Magic Keyboard
Saitek Magic Mouse

If anyone else is suffering from this problem, this solution seems to completely fix it.

Thanks for the help.

Now I can do the Brown Thunder mission on GTA Vice City with the proper equipment.
