Sorted - Falcon 4 has an advanced controller option which can be used to change which axis is used for the throttle

Chrisgodard, Once your completed with your Falcon4 profile, might I get a copy for my Falcon4?
Send to H4rMXP@hotmail.com
I mainly need to find out how you got your throttle to work in Falcon4, as I am making a profile as well. I haven't been able to sort my profile from the slider yet.
Please help since you were able to achieve normal throttle function.

May take a little while as I am still experimenting
The throttle was done from the Setup optionin Falcon 4. On the controllers tab select Advanced. This then leads to a screen where you can select the axis for the Throttle. The default had chosen the slider for some reason rather than the throttle.
Cannot see how to attach a file to let you have a look at the mode 1 programming I have done so far. To be honest anything I programme to a button needs to be easier than selecting the keyboard command.
One additional feature the X52 has which I find useful is the clutch that allows you to temporarily stop the button presses being sent but still allows you to see the command name for each button on the small LED screen in case you forget what a button does.

Hi,
I'm running Freebirds std. (SP4.2), and my throttle works ok after I deleted the MS Sidewinder 3d Precision Pro drivers in my Control Panel.
You can find/join the FreeBirds at http://freebirdswing.org/
In other install versions, I am still having issues same as yourself. Try what H4rm is suggesting. (Though I don't know how to do it myself atm.)
Cheers,

Ladies and Gentelmen,
I have been working with the X-52 for the past couple of days, and I beleive I have found several solutions to existing problems. If you haven't tried them, give it a shot.
1. "No throttle control, only percision slider operates throttle." As chrisgoddard explains, the throttle input is directed to the slider control as default. (solution - set all controls that use an axis, such as percision slider and rotational buttons, to "bands" and put no assingments to them. Leave the X, Y, rudder and throttle controls to "axis". This forces the throttle input to the throttle axis. After that, save yor configuration and go back and set your other bands/axis to what you want.)
2. "The clutch button woun't configure or accept another assingment." This is a driver issue and currently has no fix. Saitek should create a driver that alows us to assign a button for the "clutch" or remove it from our personal profiles.
3. "Mini-stick and mouse conflicts." This again is a driver issue. But this one has a work around. (If your mouse drifts or some times fails to operate, set the mini-stick to "bands" and don't assign anything, or assign an operation to it. Caution; the mini-stick will sometimes create a conflict with the profile when assigning a different command to it.)
4. "When creating a profile, and the assignments to the buttons don't work, and the X-52 locks up." This is a driver issue that I hope gets resolved. (Beware, when creating a profile, not to double up a command, or fail to assing a proper dead zone for a band, or use a pre-made profile and try to alter it. This creates a profile that can sink it's teeth into the SST software. When this happens, computer lock ups, frozen joysticks and I have experience the sound of the Yeti. This is driver contamination and there's only one way to fix this. Go into the Saitek software file and remove the profile (all of them), and start all over again. I have tried to repair a profile, but there's something with the SST software that recognizes it and woun't allow it to run right.)
It should also be said that there appears to be a problem with the percision slider switch. I like to use it as a speed brake command, but it doesn't work with that assignment. It will lock up the X-52. At least in Falcon.
I hope there will be a better configuration driver soon. One that will be a bit more flexable, allowing us to configure any button to our needs. I hope this helps as I have created a solid Falcon 4 profile. The throttle works very good now (even recognizing the detents). Let's all hope for a more configurable driver.

im having the exact same problem with a game called Jumpgate.
what ever i do i cannot get the Z-axis recognized as the throttle . i tried the above fixes but they didnt work.
feels a bit wierd to use the slider as the throttle and being forced to use the main throttle (set up as bands now ) as brakes and afterburner buttons :(
if there is another way to solve it please let me know

hmmm after deleting the game and a reinstall it worked like a charm , so here we go !!!!!!!!!!!! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE :D

That is if you have BMS 2.0 installed...if not ...you can't! As there is no Advanced Controller Setting.
Anyone can help?
Thanks

Try my fixxes. When changing the slider (or other axies) to bands, try assigning something (anything) for now. Force the throttle input to recognize the X-52 throttle, then go back and set the other bands to what you want. It has worked every time for me. I am currntly working on LOMAC. Since there's nozzle postion and throttle positions to work out, I am working on a trick to incorporate them into the X-52 throttle. I am still waiting on Saitek to build up a better driver..... the X-52 needs one baddly. :(

This works in "Free Allegiance" it might help using a similar method in other games.
Is your throttle control in allegiance attaching itself to “precision Slide” rather than the throttle?
If so try this,
1. Within the game: press “Esc” select “game options” then “Map keys and controls”
2. Pan to the bottom and select “hat as button” from the list hit “Enter” then move the precision slide on your throttle so that it becomes selected for this function, should come up with a label of “joy 0 slide”
3. Select throttle from the same list hit “Enter” then move your throttle so that it becomes selected for this function, should come up with a label of “joy 0 Z axes”
That’s it, your Throttle should now be working properly.
To sum up; all we did was assign the “precision slide” to something else in the game so that it’s not available as a throttle option, when selecting the throttle we want.

I added the Saitek Pro-Flight Rudder Pedals to my x52 rig and to my dismay I ran into the dreaded presicion slider in place of the actual throttle problem. The work-around is to unplug the rudders and restart Falcon 4 (SP4). Of course that means doing without the pedals. Sigh.
So I must ask has anyone else encountered this problem and have you found a proper fix or work around? I tried some of the solutions suggested here, but I found no joy. Thanks in advance to those who show concern.

Okay, so I discovered the ppjoy tool. And its devil spawn, franknstick. Not bad, but at the end of the day I found those solutions encumbered my system.
I want to turn to games as a release from the complexity of every day life and not to add another burden (i.e., I spent half a day working out how to get those tools to work and in spite of the success of the venture I had to ask myself, 'Why?').
So I threw in the towel and installed the BMS 2.0 package and accepted their built-in solution. Life goes on.
