View Full Version : Will the new SST be ready this week?

As I'm running Vista, I really need the new SST software.
Last notice I found is that it would be released end of March, so it should be out this week.
Can you please give us an update if we can expect it on time or not.
If delayed, for how long?

4 days left in March, no response from any of Saitek's folks... You used to have to go to SOE for this kind of customer service.

Can we get an update as to when the new SST software will be available? Pretty please?

It's only been 3 months since I got my X52, 3 months with no SST software ... arghh this sucks

We've had a couple of software team members back in this week and we're now (today) at the point where the software release is feature-complete. From here on in it's a case of test, bug found, fix, test, bug found, fix, test... etc.

I'm not yet able to say when it will be available though because I obviously can't predict how many problems will be found.

Well that's a glimmer of hope then. Thanks for the update, I'm not one to complain I just can't wait to use the X52 to full potential I've never got to use profiles with it since I bought it ;)

I want updates on how the internal tests are going and if any estimated releasedate is beeing planned...

The next thing you hear from me on the software release will likely be a confirmed release date, but until more testing has been done and we know what shape we're in there's nothing more that I can confirm on that right now; and probably not for a good week at the very least.

However, I can now state which new features/fixes will be in this release:

1. Printing is fixed - you'll now be able to print out a list of your commands as they're assigned. In this release we'll be presenting that in the same(ish) grid format that the Profile Editor works in, as requested by a lot of X52/45 users.

2. You'll now be able to create profiles without the controller plugged in. A selection menu will allow you to choose which controller you want to program, and this still includes allowing multiple controllers within the same profile (should you wish).

3. Assign new shift modes. You'll now be able to program any button (or combination of buttons, should you wish) on your controller to become a 'shift' button, meaning that you can go over an above the previously alloted shift modes for your controller. You will also be able to name your modes ("Finally!" cry the X52/X52 Pro owners). Additionally, it will be possible to program it so that when you change to a particular mode, it issues a keystroke.

4. Direction sensitive axis programming. Particularly useful for the X45/X52/X52 Pro owners - you'll be able to program your rotaries to issue different keystrokes depending on which direction you move them in. This gets around the issues with banding where if you leave the rotary in a banded position it continually emits that assigned keystroke, as well as making it much easier to use for functions like increasing/decreasing radar range or trim, for example.

5. Hotkey programming. You will now be able to program a button to issue a hotkey command (like Play for media player, for example) should you wish.

Wow, sounds great! Can't wait for it!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that you'll now be able to program the mouse scroll wheel function using SST (something that wasn't possible until now).

Also, for X52/X52 Pro owners, the hats will now display their assigned command in the MFD (previously only buttons could). We're not going to enable this for axes because they would end up "spamming" the MFD display so you'd never see anything else other than the axis command continually repeating!

I have decided to get a new computer, spec'ed out to the max with 2 x GTS 8800 cards and have had to ditch my beloved Stickworks Thrustmaster gear as they are no longer supported with the new motherboard and Windows Vista Home Premium.
I have just bought the X52 Pro setup and ordered the Saitek pedals as I have heard that this is the best setup that would approximate what I had with my FLCS/TQS arrangement.
I will request the 32 bit version but am trusting I wont have to go to the expense or trouble of having a dual boot Vista/XP system.

From what I read here the Saitek folks are sorting out issues with the programming part of the joystick/throttle gear.

I wonder how many others here have gone down this route and would love to hear your comments.

Sorry about my poor english.

ControlMK, a free & amateur universal profiler (DirectInput based), works perfectly for me (under Vista64) since the first day (months ago). With this piece of free software (only 200 KB!) I easily asigned all the keys in my Pro Gamer Command Unit, and used it with no problems in all my games.

What a fast & pro team... What a shame... :p

Google it: ControlMK

ControlMK is a nice piece of software, but I can't get it to recognize the shift key. (the one on the palm) With my massive amount of keybinds, I need all keys functional... :(

I doubt the behaviour of key #21, the 'shift' key, is like the other buttons on this pad... something special with it methinks. Other freeware gamepad apps don't pick it up either. Annoying.

Guess i got owned.

I was using Belkin Nostromo N52 then i got a new computer with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, N52 didnt have any drivers or software for Vista 64-bit so i went to the online store and looking for a new one and find PGCU and i go to Saitek homepage to see if they have drivers. YES they have and i did buy one PGCU. I install driver and did in my stupidity think that there was Software in it. I was thinking why do drivers if u anyway cant use it without software.

So to my questions:
1. Why did u relese the driver if they are useless without SST?
2. Cant u say when its comming? Why?

how funny,
I do almost the same.
Before I install my vista 64 bit I look for each hardware component for the drivers.
I see the vista driver for my command unit and I buy vista 64 bit.
But nobody can use the command unit without the SSt programm.
The other question I have how long is a week.

What means for a good week?
0-20 weeks?
sorry for my poor english.

"Saitek Smart Technology (SST) programming software has also been rewritten to run on PCs with the Vista operating system and we are currently beta testing for imminent release (watch the website for regular updates). Customers who have created their own custom profiles for games in Windows 2000, XP or XP64 will be able to easily convert these to run on Vista and the new SST software by downloading conversion software from www.saitek.com. "

Only good thing I can improve my english.
I am german.
The command unit is really good I cannot play without it!!!!

Yeah, I agree with you folks... whats the use of releasing drivers, when you can't use the control unit anyway? If it even had BASIC usability, that would be one thing, but I can't get it to work in ANY game I tried.

As an example, when I bought mine the seller logged on to saitek.com to check, because I asked about Vista specificly... so he showed me the page with the Vista drivers... I didn't think much more about it, neither did he.

It's a hard punch to realize it when you get home, instead of something as simple as having your web-admin put a message on the specific PGCU + Vista link, something like: "This device will not function properly until our SST software for Vista has been released".

I consider this to be basic customer care.

When people read there's a driver availible, they shouldn't have to be thinking about additional "programming software". If it works like an extra, say the actual device functions in some games, that's one thing. But if it's vital for the device to function, this should really be spelled out by the people responsible for it.

hi project6,
I know you use controlmk with the command unit.
It works fine, but I can not use vk_shift or vk_control.
Can you use it ?

Sorry I do not understand this.
What means for a good week?
it means for at least a week & probably longer.

The PGCU is the only Saitek controller that absolutely requires SST - all the others can work with in game setup although obviously not to the full extent that SST allows.

I can configure the buttons with ControlMK and find them working in windows however with the game launched (PES6), the assigned keys all mess up. Has anybody experienced the same thing?
I'm using P2500 with Vista Ultimate 64.

I think it just sucks man, I mean have they just stopped developing the SST for 64bit? They said a week 2 weeks ago and didnt even post to apologise or give us a clue when it is coming out. I have teh PGCU X52 and Rudder Set, I cant even get the X52 to work right on BF2, I program it into the controls part on BF2, but then when I set weapons keys etc it says button already in use, pure rubbish, thats 800 dollars of equipment I can't trust, and I cant trust Saitek to even keep us informed now, awesome, thanks Saitek.

Well, not looking for sympathy but, I have cancer and am pretty ill, so hopefully the SST will be ready while I can still use it hey.

I am sure a lot of ppl can't afford to wait around for some reason or other. Just imagine if I could get my 800 bucks back, that would pay for a a nurse for 3 weeks and I wouldnt have to keep enduring the painful trek tohospital every day or 2.

Well inform us is not on there priority list.

thats right seems like another company whose top priority is to sell stuff and worry about getting it working later, maybe if they can be bothered, following Bill gates' example.

I'm off sick too, but guess what, I am working from home, cos it's easy when your job is based around computers.

PS I am in Australia, if anyone wants to buy my X52, Rudder Pedals and my Command Unit, pls let me know, I'm over them.

Hi,

That's a bug in BF2. Try resetting all the controls to default and then starting again.

As for informing you of when the software will be out, I've already posted in several threads that I will let you know when the software is to be released as soon as I have a confirmed date.

One thing I should say is that it was definitely a bug in the original release of BF2, but one that that should have been fixed with the various patches that have been released since. I assume you are fully up to date with all the patches that EA have released?

jekrasnowski@optusne
23rd April 2007, 12:02
Yup I only play online so I would have to be, I will let you know if it works if it is worth your while knowing. I did have major issues getting my rudder pedals working when I was using XP. Would say key already in use if I tried to set them. I haven't tried them on Vista yet as I thought it better to wait for the new SST, but I can try that too if you would like the input.

BF2 has always been a bit buggy with this, I remember before patch 1.41 or what ever we are on now, sometimes my PC would lock up completely if I tried to program for more than a couple of minutes into BF2's key options. I had to program a few keys, save, program a few more, until it worked. Again with XP tho.

Due to not having dual boot functionality I am stuck with Vista now and can't be bothered to swap out HDD's to see what I'm missing. Cheeky Microsoft forcing us to migrate!
